  • Battle At The Centre Of The Mind: At the climax of chapter 10, he duels Elcrest for control over their body.
  • Also in Chapter 9, where Alto and Hilda fight off a swarm of angels invading the capital.
  • Back-to-Back Badasses: Alto and Dante in the latter's ending.
  • The Atoner: After the Anthem Program is completed and the Angels attack Earth he feels like it is his responsibility as seen when he talks to Hilda.
  • Armor-Piercing Attack: His final special, Ragna Break, ignores the enemy's defense.

Vitriolic at worst and competitive at best- at least it gets better in Dante's ending. However, he has difficulties accepting Dante when the Harbingers join the 9th Regiment/Tuning Knights. He cares for complete strangers, always tries to talk things out before resorting to violence and even eventually accepts and forgives Hilda after everything she's done instead of killing her on the spot. All-Loving Hero: A defining aspect of his personality.Eventually Alto learns that he is a "Conductor," someone who can Tune the hearts of Witches and bring out their inner power, an ability not seen since the hero Elcrest 1,000 years ago.Īlto is kind and is often impulsive in his drive to help others, something that gets him in trouble a lot but also wins him the affection of many. When Lisette found him three years ago in Mithra Village without his memories, she and her mother took him in and gave him the name "Alto." When Mithra Village is crystallized by Hilda, the Witch of Destruction and Lisette awakens as the Water Witch, Alto and Lisette set off to the capital and join the 9th Regiment of the Royal Knights in order to find a way to save their village. There are so many great things about it that they way outweigh the flaws.Voiced by: Atsushi Abe (Japanese) Robbie Daymond (English) Go support this movie, even if it isn't perfect. I don't want to spoil anything, so I'm going to leave it at that. Soft strum guitar comes in at random intervals and doesn't really work, but the dark, brooding thump of a certain synth track really gives you a sense of cosmic horror. The cinematography isn't particularly flashy but it captures the world behind the shimmer in all of it's messed up glory (the last twenty minutes are truly a thing to behold). The side characters however, like Gina Rodriguez and Tessa Thompson, are mostly annoying and sometimes border on being simply bad. Natalie Portman turns in a great performance (she carries the entire film) and Jennifer Jason Leigh gives a reserved and underplayed angle to a well worn out archetype.

Some of the performances are great, some are okay, and at least one is noticeably bad.

The first half is so patiently mediocre that the second half almost feels like a completely different movie, making the movie a mixed bag but one that's totally worth it.

I definitely was close to checking out around the middle point, but quickly my interest was piqued and in the blink of an eye the movie turned into a profound, 2001 meets Under The Skin meets Predator surreal science fiction near- masterpiece. The only advice I can give to anybody going to see Annihilation is: stick with it.
